Government through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has set aside K 20 million for all provinces to go towards climate mitigation and adaptation projects.

Central Province like all other provinces has been allocated K 2 million for Mumbwa and Luano Districts for the projects.

Provincial Permanent Secretary Dr Milner Mwanakampwe has welcomed the projects and says the initiative will go along way in improving the lives of the people.

Speaking during a courtesy call by officers from National Designated Authority (NDA) under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment led by NDA Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Ms. Maimbolwa Matale, Dr Mwanakampwe praised the initiative for targeting the local people.

“The government working through different ministries is doing a lot to touch the lives of the critical mass. This province grapples with shifts in weather from one extreme end to another extreme end. I’m glad that you colleagues from National Designated Authority (NDA) have come in to cushion these extreme ends. These are measures that ought to be managed so that our people are helped,” Dr. Mwanakampwe said.

“One million in a district is good money, it can bring about the much-needed development. If we can use the money for simple mechanization of farming in communities, this can boost all year-round crop production.”

He said its amusing to learn that the resources that the government of President Hakainde Hichilema is putting up to the people are going straight to the communities and they will decide on the projects to work on with the guidance of the specialists.

Manwhile Ms. Matale sad the funds have been allocated to Luano and Mumbwa with each district allocated one million.

“While this help is available, its time bound, we have up to December 25th to implement this project so we need to hit the ground running,” she stressed.

“This is a government sponsored initiative, this is governments funds, tax payers money being allocated to showcase different climate mitigation and adaptation projects to target the most vulnerable communities in the selected districts.”

Officers will starting next week be on the ground identifying activities that will b funded under this project.
